Preconstruction of the status of psychopedagogy in the degree career: some considerations

Abstract

In this paper we will try to show that it is necessary for psychopedagogy -as for any other discipline in which there are
interventions on patients/individuals- an epistemological reflection
from where professional interventions are done. In fact, institutions
must realize about the need of counting on epistemological profiles
to carry on their interventions according to current legislations. In
this sense, we will show some discussions that, we think, should
appear in a near future. Firstly, we do some general considerations
about how important it is for institutions to know the
epistemological profiles they addopt to guide professionals within
work teams. Then, and this is crucial, we show that, in a near
future, teaching different epistemological perspectives in grade
level could be trascendent, because new professionals would be
aware of their particular profile, and they could be able to addapt
it to institutions, whether for working or to direct them. Making a
contrast, psychology in general, an psychoanalyisis in particular,
have achieved epistemological discussions for their discipline and
profession, concepts, intervention methods, objectives of their
treatments, etc. All this has allowed them to get a high status and
helped them to avoid being absorbed by positivism that ruled when
they firstly appeared. In the same way, psychopedagogues’
professional practices should count on epistemological
developments to rely on; this would justify for psychopedagogical
discipline an status that could allow it to get an important role
within institutions, so that it could avoid being replaced by other
disciplines with a high status previously achieved, such as is the
case of psychology and psychoanalysis. To close this paper, by three
brief conclusions, we will try to indicate the importance of
including epistemological reflections on grade level of the carrer of
psychopedagogy. Just by this way, future professionals would be
capable of knowing that institutions in which they will work, or
which they will direct, move on epistemological grounds which are
worth knowing.
