The Catcher in the Rye tells the story of Holden Cauldfiel, a 17-year-old teenager, from the time he is expelled from Pencey until his return to his parents' house. Through the first-person narration we realise in Holden's actions the conflicts and typical adolescence problems that are still current nowadays. Through an interpretive analysis of the plot, the purpose of this work is to account for the protagonist's relationship with himself, with grown-ups and, particularly with childhood, using as a reference framework Donald Winnicott main ideas developed in his writings on adolescence. Finally, it is expected to promote a different perspective to address the discomfort of youth in current times.
