Abstract

This article reflects on the national identity and indigenous otherness construction modes during the formation of the argentine Nation-State. In this sense, by considering the relevance of Martín Fierro
in the process of imagining and narrating the argentine Nation, this masterpiece of José Hernández is rethought here, through notions such as Nation, identities (and identifications), hegemony and antagonism, in order to comprehend its significant mechanisms and thus produce a critical reading that interpellates not only the past but also the present.
