Abstract

This essay examines the relationship between modern ways of life and the body, understood as a locus

of identity processes. It analyzes how logics of time and the body intersect with sport and the

performance-oriented society, arguing that contemporary cultures have normalized the sporting body as

a model that exceeds athletic practice and establishes a “new bodily morality.” Drawing on body and

time as analytical categories, the essay reflects on how sports morality is constructed in contemporary

societies, proposing a dialogue between studies of modernity and the social and cultural study of sport.
