This study analyzed the influence of extracurricular sports on motor performance in male students aged
13 and 14 from a private secondary school in the city of Rosario (Argentina).
The decline in physical activity among young people and adolescents is a global concern, underlining
the importance of extracurricular sports in these populations. The objective was to analyze the influence
of extracurricular sports practice on agility and speed, assessed through the 4 × 10 m test. The sample
consisted of 55 male students aged 13 and 14 years from the secondary school N° 8151 in Rosario, Santa
Fe, Argentina.
The results showed that most participants engaged in extracurricular sports, with a predominance of
open-skill disciplines. This group achieved better times in the agility and speed test compared to those
who did not practice sports, although the correlations between variables were not high.
In conclusion, extracurricular sports practice favors the development of motor skills in adolescents,
especially when sustained through regularity, accumulated experience, and gym training. The findings
provide evidence for the planning of school programs aimed at promoting physical activity and
optimizing motor performance in youth populations.
