This article is part of Research Project PI 04/121, entitled: "Adolescence on the Edge of the Present: Psychoanalysis, Institutions, and the Pandemic," directed by Lic. and Prof. Marina La Vecchia and co-directed by Dr. Gabriel Pavelka from the University of Comahue. The story that gives the article its name narrates the life of Tadeo Isidoro Cruz, who goes from being a fugitive to a rural police sergeant, culminating in a critical moment where he confronts a rebel who reflects his own past. This situation is articulated with the psychoanalytic theory of Jacques Lacan, particularly with the notion of "act," which implies a profound change in the subject, marking a before and after in their existence. The analysis highlights how Borges uses violence and force as narrative elements to explore internal and social conflicts, and suggests that these literary themes can offer insights into the dignity and treatment of marginalized individuals in contemporary society.
