Abstract

The concept of delegative democracy has become the focus of many studies that aim to analyze Kirchner’s administrations. The centrality acquired by such notion in the context of these studies
did not imply that considerable efforts were made, aimed, on the one hand, to make a presentation of such concept that took into account both its original formulation and its review; and, on the
other hand, to identify and systematize the views provided by O'Donnell regarding the possibility of defining such governments with the concept he had developed. This work will seek to set up a
contribution in that direction. The aim is threefold: a. to present in detail the main features of the alluded concept according to the above mentioned two stages of its proposal; b. to determine if
O'Donnell considered that the Kirchneristas governments could be defined as delegative democracies; and c. to establish whether the characterization that the political scientist made of Nestor Kirchner’s and Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner’s governments implied or not a rupture regarding the characterizations which he had made of the political experiences that preceded them (in particular, those which took place since the return of democracy).
