Abstract

This article deals with the reorganisation of the National Justicialist Movement (MNJ)
under the leadership of Major Bernardo Alberte, which took place between February
1967 and April 1968. With the expectations placed in Onganía's government exhausted
and faced with the indefinite postponement of a new electoral process, the coup
conspiracy and confrontation with the regime appeared to be the only possible ways to
achieve Perón's return. In this context, the Justicialist leader assigned his delegate two
goals: to achieve the unification of Peronism under his leadership and for the MNJ to
adopt a position of confrontation with the military dictatorship.
Following a qualitative strategy, our research reconstructs the way in which Alberte
sought to achieve these objectives, taking into account the circumstances that led him to
ally himself with the Peronist left and the combative sectors of the movement. To do so,
it analyses in depth the realignments of the main actors, focusing on the Trade Union
Branch and the impact that the reorganisation of that sector had on the Political
Branches for Men and Women and on the Youth.
