Public Documents
Our public documents are one of the textual productions stemming from the university research and outreach projects that bring us together. They are grounded in the conviction that the university plays a vital role in how our society addresses—whether by validating them or not—our children and adolescents.
These documents give form to reflections regarding the place of childhood(s) and adolescence(s) in our society. In our journal, readers will find a series of public documents spanning from 2010 to the present. Each emerged during a specific, critical moment, addressing issues such as the exclusion of children and adolescents, life, death, and the processes of subjectification and desubjectification shaped by the laws, expressions, and decisions of more than just our government officials. A critique of prevailing public policies, alongside the role of institutions and their workers, runs through these texts. Representations of what a child is, and the role of workers and families, remain in constant tension.
They are Public Documents in that they are made available to the community for and within the polis. Beyond fostering a critical perspective, they call for a practical know-how (saber-hacer) to confront the real—which is always disruptive—of which these very texts are a part.
Some of these documents have been endorsed and signed by individuals, institutions, organizations, and authorities from diverse backgrounds, extending far beyond the traditionally understood university environment. They have influenced the rectification and/or implementation of new approaches, positioning, and public policies. Psychoanalysis has allowed us to generate this reading.
