ABSTRACT

In the following paper we suggest approaching first and foreign language teaching from an artistic, normative and inquiring perspective, along the lines of Bosque’s (2017) analysis. We describe what we define as the Orwell-Plato Problem in educational contexts and we explain how to shift from a behaviorist approach to a generative and constructivist one, one which fosters students’ creativity. Even though there has been a paradigm shift in linguistics from structuralism and behaviourism to generativism, we conclude that this has not been reflected either in the teaching of grammar, official curriculum documents or in the textbooks used to teach Spanish or English in Argentina. In particular, we offer an example of how to teach tenses from Bosque’s (2017) threefold perspective and we attempt to show that it is possible to approach grammar from a formal standpoint as from primary school. Our proposal draws on contributions from the didactics of language teaching, especially from the Project-Based Learning approach.
ER -
