The new South Africa, the "Rainbow Nation", was conceived with the idea of sheltering to all the groups that were living in these lands under the same flag, the same nation.
In May, 2008, South Africa was affected by a wave of xenophobic violence that expanded rapidly to several neighborhoods of Johannesburg,Cape Town and Durban. These facts indicate that "other" is still someone to fear, but who make up the binomial Other / us in the post apartheid South Africa?
Taking this question as a major emergency, the objective of this work will reflect and complexify the idea of the "Rainbow Nation" realizing the identity formation process that is implicit in it and the conflicting identities barrier between colonial and national identities. In this context it will be necessary to investigate the formation process of the new South African nationalism, and which "others" are integrated as one flag colors. ER -
